Why Comics?

Well... I've always been a fan of the comic medium. I've only ever read physical papers for the comics [Okay, there was the occasional horoscope or article about a comic scifi flick, but in general]. Nowadays I almost exclusively read comics online -- at the height of my webcomic lurking I read nearly 100 comics regularly. I've since managed to wean myself off of a fair amount and only read somewhere in the range of 30-40. Most of them don't even update daily!

Webcomics addiction aside, I find the comic medium to be more challenging. I've always had a much easier time drawing realistically -- with that you can simply look at things and know exactly how you want them to look. In comics there's a style adaptation that has to take place. In high school I started seriously considering the forms in comics and practicing to teach myself. I began by emulating styles in my favorite styles from webcomics [Particularly Exploitation Now, Dominic Deegan, Wapsi Square, CRFH, and MegaTokyo]. I tried to meld my favorite characteristics of each of these drawing styles with my realistic tendencies and some new thoughts on comic style conventions. I'm still working to further evolve my drawing style, but I'm pleased with the progress I've made over the past 6 years.

Comics, however, are not just a drawing style -- they're a method of storytelling. This is what draws me in the most -- I love learning new stories. More rambling about this later though, as I've got other things to work on at the moment -- a story for another day, if you will ^_^
